Not good - from: '' - no rating given - 26-Jul-14
This place was closed on a Sunday during the Summer when I went over to look at bikes to buy. Windows are dirty, the place is dark, and the product boxes in the window were completely faded. How long has it been since someone cleaned a window or changed the sign. BTW, the beautiful neon sign above the shop said "$80" on it. That's it. What is that all about? The owners need to sell.

WONDERFUL SERVICE! - from: '' - Rating: 5/5 - 17-Jan-13
I walked in with my left crank off my bike. It had fallen off a few weeks ago on my way home from work. The gentlemen there was so nice and friendly was able to fix it with out a problem! Unlike the other shops I went to he was friendly and talkative and was actually able to fix it. I will be coming back to the shop for future bike repairs and purchases!

I work with a fitness company, and I work around bikes daily. I needed some tools, and John was more than happy to help, he spent time with me to order the tools, and get them the next day. I was able to observe John as he worked and also helped other customer's, like a juggler. Customer Service is awesome, not once did John ignore or put off anyone. It might not be a fancy place outside, but inside John makes you the customer the king or queen!.

Great new owner! John is very friendly and knowledgeable, a great addition for park ridge. The service is quick and done right, no pressure sales for new bikes and equipment . For anyone that is worried about the reviews from years back, donít be. This is new management that cares about the customers and the community

Just bought a bike and a very positive experience. I'm sure I could have got a bike cheaper at a big-box but the new owner is very nice and was willing to work the price.

Nice local bike shop - from: '' - Rating: 5/5 - 03-Aug-11
Great experience at Marty's. No pressure sale, competitive prices, large selection and even let me go for a test drive. Very knowledgeable and even installed my bottle holder while I looked around for other accessories.

New Owners - from: 'Dan' - Rating: 5/5 - 04-Jun-11
I noticed that most of these posts are 2-4 years old. I recently went there and John, the new owner was way cool. Offered some sound advice on tires for my bike, great price and no hard sell. By the number of patrons in his shop on Saturday I think the word is out that there's a new owner with a different attitude then those reported here. This will be my bike shop for repairs and any future purchases.

new purchase - from: '' - Rating: 5/5 - 03-May-11
Marty's now under NEW OWNERSHIP. New owners John $ Dawn are very pleasant and go out of their way to make your visit or purchase a fun and easy one. My family purchased 2 bikes and are COMPLETELY SATISFIED with the whole experience.

not great - from: '' - Rating: 2/5 - 02-Aug-10
This place is really one of those dark, dying "independant bike dealers" who always complain that people won't buy from them instead of Walmart, Target etc. Their bikes ARE better than the junk sold in mass merchant stores but their attitude generally sucks. This guy does not deserve your business. Find another bike shop. There are plenty of independant shops that are friendly and have a great selection.

Rude - from: '' - Rating: 1/5 - 02-Aug-10
I've been in the store and have talked to these people on the phone. On all occassions, the new Polish owner was not in a good mood and was very short and impatient.

He literally hung up on me without saying bye after having a few minute conversation about rims/tires.

I am not sure why the man is so grumpy but he needs to take a customer service class!!!

so-so - from: '' - Rating: 3/5 - 31-Jul-10
"Marty" sold the shop to this guy several years ago. The place is very underwhelming and sells a lot of outdated models with very little in the way of choice. If you want a Schwinn check out some of the other stores around the area. They have the same brand but carry ALL of the models plus they are happy to see you walk in the door.

Marty's has been around forever! It's nice to still see a neighborhood bike shop. I prefer to support a local shop than buy my Schwinn from a huge chain sporting goods store or worse, Walmart.

Amazed - from: '' - Rating: 1/5 - 11-Jul-10
Really surprised this guy is still in business. Like some others on here, he was OK to me when I was in his shop but the place is crummy and the bike selection is nill.

nice guy - from: '' - Rating: 5/5 - 04-May-10
This was about 3 years ago but I have a very positive memory of the place. I only got some training wheels put on one of my kids' used bikes, and the guy did it on the spot. He seemed to pay close attention to details, getting them to be at a "perfect", is what he said, height. He was cheerful and courteous. If I lived anywhere near there I'd use them for all my bike needs.

Marty is rude - from: '' - Rating: 1/5 - 25-Nov-09
"Marty" is extremely rude and angry. I have tried to be nice to him but he always doesen't have any good service. Too expensive, and he tried to rip me off. His bike shop is poorly designed, and doesen't have much lights in it so I can't see very well. Almost all of his bikes are not worth the price and come without disk breaks. I think Marty will do anything to get money off of you. Seriously, stay away from him.

I think the other people on here may have caught the owner on a bad day. I bought 3 bikes there over the past 15 years and each time his price was good compared to other bike shops and his attitude was fine. When my 8 year old daughter was looking for a bike she picked out a Schwinn and he simply lifted it out of the rack, put it on the sidewalk out front and said: "ok, ride!". Can't argue with that approach to trying before you buy. Also bought some parts there and a new saddle for an older bike and he always showed me how to do the work. I don't have a problem with Marty's.

Interesting ! - from: '' - Rating: 1/5 - 06-Oct-07
The new Polish owner who bought from Marty displayed a bad case of allergy to Park Ridge residents on 2 occasions. His store manager, a teen age boy was trying to impress me by his phone calls at an old desk to order parts for my bike, not having a clue of what was needed. He called me 2 weeks later to say he can't find them.
Last month I went in for a new Schwin bicycle. His new store manager told me the owner was dying on his hospital bed and he will be able to communicate with the dying man not the same day but two days later to ak him about a price reduction from his lofty expectations. I asked him if he expects him to recover in two days or die. He asked me to leave shouting a list of other dealers I should visit.
Do not expect service or a bicycle reasonably price. If your field is pathological case studies, this place is a must.

I've brought my bike here three times and have been completely satisfied each time. Prices were very good and the service was prompt.
